According to documents recorded in the Ottoman Archives, the Riva Mosque existed before the fortress, between 1648 and 1677, under the name of Kabasakal Mustafa Aga, and was known as the Kabasakal Mustafa Aga Foundation until the mid-19th century. The mosque was repaired in 1873, and during the Second World War it was placed under the Ministry of National Defense and used as a barracks until 1950. Today only the walls of the mosque survive of the original structure.
