Editor's Note
Date of construction: AH 1247 / AD 1831-1832. Its inscription reads: The king like Alexander, the sea-bountiful Khan, has made the world flourish, district by district, with his grace and generosity. He learned that of all places Tarabya was most in need of water, and so ordered this generous fountain into being. No place was left unsated by the blessing of his justice; the water of his grace gladdened the hearts of all the thirsty. Your servant Rif'at, beholding it, spoke this heart-pleasing chronogram: Khan Mahmud has founded a fountain beautiful as water itself.
