On land that Hovhannes Ağa Kuyumcuyan bought at Köybaşı in 1845, a wooden church was built in 1848 by Hovhannes Ağa Tıngıryan. Later deemed inadequate, it was rebuilt in masonry by Tıngıryan and opened for worship on 24 June 1866 by Archbishop Andon Hasun.
