Editor's Note
The Halil Ethem Pasha Mansion at the Çubuklu bend, built in the second half of the 19th century on a Baroque plan with timber walls in the neoclassical style, also carries nearly 150 years of memory of a family with a place in Turkish science and art that has endured to the present day. The first owner of the shore mansion was İbrahim Edhem Pasha, a scholar and statesman who served as one of Abdülhamid II's grand viziers. He lived throughout the 19th century and held a great variety of offices. İbrahim Edhem Pasha's two sons were Osman Hamdi and Halil Ethem, unforgettable names in Turkish museology and artistic life.
