The Şerifler Mansion, located on Sakıp Sabancı Avenue along the shore road in Emirgan, is one of the rare waterside mansions still standing today as a representative of the civil architecture that flourished on the Bosphorus in the 18th century. It is also known as the oldest mansion on the Rumeli (European) shore and the most remarkable in terms of interior decoration. Registered under protection No. 126 in 1971 by the Council for Immovable Antiquities and Monuments and thought to have been built in 1782, only the selamlık divanhane (men's reception hall) survives today.
