Editor's Note
Erected in 1933 to commemorate the Sinop–Moscow flight made by a squadron of the 1st Aircraft Regiment based in Eskişehir, this roughly 4-metre-tall column was later forgotten over the many years it stood in the marshy ground where it had remained. On the centenary of the Republic, it was moved to its new location.
