Bearing the typical features of a Byzantine fortress, the structure is thought to have been built in the Late Antique period (5th-6th century). During work carried out by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums between 2016 and 2018, the apse remains of a church near the center of the castle were identified.
