Its overall plan conforms to the shape of the hill on which it stands. It has a triangular plan. During the five-month defense of Edirne in the Balkan Wars it was the scene of bloody fighting, and on 26 March 1913 it was the first redoubt to fall before the Bulgarian assaults. It was built between 1886 and 1888 by İsmail Hakkı Bey and the Fortification Commission. It is one of the 24 redoubts that formed Edirne's line of defense and encircled the city.
