Editor's Note
The Peykler Madrasa lies within the part of the city known as the "golden triangle," right beside the Üç Şerefeli Mosque. Situated to the east of the Saatli Madrasa, it was built by Fatih Sultan Mehmed. The Peykler Madrasa takes its name from the loyal soldiers of the inner circle of Fatih Sultan Mehmed Khan. The word "peyk" literally means "satellite." On state occasions and at royal processions, these soldiers served in two rows close to the sultan in their conspicuous attire, and may be regarded as his close and faithful bodyguards.
