This is a market hall built to provide endowment revenue for the charitable foundation of Hersekli Semiz Ali Pasha, who served as grand vizier between 1561 and 1565, in Babaeski. The Tezkiretü'l-Ebniye reveals that its architect was Mimar Sinan, where the structure is recorded as the "Ali Pasha Market and Caravanserai in Edirne." The 1568/69 Edirne Endowment Register lists the market as having 211+25 shops. After a major fire in 1992 left it unusable, the market was restored by the General Directorate of Foundations in 1997-1998 and reopened for use. [1] Source: [1] (2013).
