Editor's Note
It was commissioned in 1772 by Hacı Hasan Ağa of Kayseri. It underwent a restoration in 1840-1841. The construction and repair inscriptions on the fountain's east facade read, in order: "A distinguished benefactor, a pillar among the notables of praised qualities, namely el-Hac Hasan Ağa, who through his generosity is the envy of the world and the universe; the man of saintly origin from Kayseri, having resolved to favor this town, saw that its people were in need of water and, his generosity surging like the Nile and the Euphrates, built this lofty fountain for the sake of God..."
