Editor's Note
The Church of Hagia Yohannes (Ayayani) was built in 1871, though its exact location is not clearly known. Ali Rıza Dursunkaya notes that an old and very dilapidated Greek School stood on the site of today's Cumhuriyet Primary School, while Nazif Karaçam states that there was a Greek School on the same site with a church beside it, and that these buildings were demolished in the 1950s and the present Cumhuriyet Primary School building was put up.
