Editor's Note
This bunker at Çatalca is part of the Çakmak Line defence system set up in the Republican period, in the 20th century. Running across Thrace, these concrete emplacements were meant to guard the capital against a possible land assault. The structure is recent military heritage reflecting the strategic anxieties of the Second World War years.
