Story
The mausoleum monument of Mehmed Kemal Bey is one of the symbolic structures of Kadıköy's historical richness. Mehmed Kemal Bey, who held important state offices during the final period of the Ottoman Empire and the early period of the Republic of Turkey, found a place in the cultural memory of the region through this monument. As one of the rare examples in which classical Ottoman tomb architecture was adapted to Republican modernism, the structure offers a rich document to the history of architecture and art. The inscriptions and sculptural elements around the monument preserve the aesthetic values of early 20th-century Istanbul.
