Set at the point where the Anastasian Walls meet the Black Sea, in a position overlooking the water, the building is thought to date from the 10th century. Judging by its structural features, the surviving remains may once have been a monastery. Centrally planned and domed, it has a brick-arched doorway flanked by a window on each side. The church has been damaged by illegal excavations.
