Editor's Note
The village of Alaton was formed when Rumelian immigrants affected by the War of '93 (1877–1878) settled within the Istranca Forests, which were closed to settlement at that time (19th century). Alaton's first settlement was at the Koca Dere locality in the basin of the Binkılıç Stream. As a local name, "Koca Dere" is also used in place of Binkılıç Stream. Indeed, one of the bridges built over the stream branch at Binkılıç is also named "Koca Köprü." A fountain called Koca Çeşme was built over the stream, and people settled in its vicinity.
