Editor's Note
The Trapezus Quay is a quay-and-pier structure thought to have been built during the Roman period, around 120 CE, by the Roman emperor Hadrian. It is located adjacent to the east of the wall in the Aşağıhisar (Lower Castle) section of Trabzon Castle, in the area where the Kadınlar Pazarı (Women's Market) now stands. The structure lies in an area that has had a commercial function since antiquity, and it was built as part of the Roman-era harbor system. The quay was designed to be set within the Kuzgundere valley.
