Editor's Note
The İmaret Aqueduct, also known as the Zağnos Aqueduct, is a historic water structure on the Zağnos Stream, located today to the north of the Trabzon Aquarium. According to the sources, it was first built during the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian (527–565). Repaired in later periods by the Komnenos dynasty, the structure was completely renovated in the Ottoman period—especially with the construction of the Hatuniye Complex in 1514—and its water-carrying capacity was increased. Its present form reflects 19th-century Ottoman technique and style.
