Hızırbey Camii, Trabzon

Editor's Note

The Hızırbey Mosque was built in 1562. Recorded in archival documents under the name "Eksotha Masjid," the building was rebuilt in 1798 and underwent a comprehensive restoration in 1837. It was also repaired in 1859 and 1903, and so was renewed many times over the years. Its present form dates from when it was completely rebuilt in 1996 and 2010. Architecturally, the building has a mosque plan consisting of two units. It was constructed in the masonry system using cut stone.
