Editor's Note
The Müftüoğulları Mansion was built in the early 20th century by Kostaki Theophylaktos for his son-in-law, the architect Velissaridis. Its architect was Dimitrios Fyllisis, one of Trabzon's leading architects; the building passed to the Müftüoğlu family in 1925 through an exchange for a property in Polita. Resting on a half-basement, the residence has a single-story plan with a roof terrace. Its plan scheme consists of independent rooms arranged around a polygonal central hall. This layout shows that in the residential architecture of the period, interior spaces were conceived as a functional whole.
