Editor's Note
Kars is a city in northeast Turkey and the seat of Kars Province, one of the highest-altitude provincial capitals in the country. In classical historiography it lay in the ancient region of Chorzene, later becoming the capital of the Bagratid Kingdom of Armenia from 929 to 961. The city had an Armenian ethnic majority until it was taken by Turkish nationalist forces in late 1920.
