Editor's Note
The Tomb of Mehmet Zengi (Emirzade Mehmet), with its inscription dated AH 746 / AD 1345-46, has a securely known construction date and dates from the Eretna period. One of the 14th-century examples of Anatolian Turkish architecture, the tomb was built on an L-shaped plan. It is composed of two rectangular spaces oriented north-south and east-west. The main spaces are roofed with barrel vaults, while the corner space where the arms of the L meet is covered with a cross vault. The interior layout is likewise organised in three parts in accordance with the roofing.
