Editor's Note
The Tomb of Suya Kanmış Hatun bears no inscription today. Built in the baldachin style, with six legs and open spaces between them, it contains no sarcophagus. In art-historical terms the tomb is dated to the 14th century, that is, the Eratna period. Suya Kanmış Hatun lived in the third quarter of the 14th century, the Eratna period; her death, however, is dated to 1281. The phrase 'Suya Kanmış' derives from the word suyurgal in Eratna Uyghur Turkish, which in old Turkish means 'to bestow' or 'to grant.'
