The Kümbet of Emir Celaleddin bin Muhammed, commonly known as the Alaca Kümbet, was built between 1184 and 1190 and is one of the striking examples of Seljuk-era monumental tomb architecture. The structure rests on an octagonal drum created by chamfering the upper part of a cubic body, and is covered by a dome on the inside and a pyramidal cap on the outside. The chamfers of the square-plan body are triangular on the south and quadrilateral on the north. The kümbet shows no trace of a lower level and has no crypt floor; the threshold level of the doorway has been taken to be the building's actual ground or base level.
