The Devlethane, an important Seljuk-era building in Kayseri, has today vanished entirely. The earliest historical reference to its location appears in the context of the succession struggle that followed the sudden and suspicious death of Alâeddin Keykubad I in Kayseri in 1237. In accordance with Keykubad's will, his middle son Kılıç Arslan was enthroned at the Keykubadiye Palace about 10 km west of Kayseri, while his eldest son Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev II was proclaimed sultan at the Devlethane in the city center.
