The Sumoğlu Han was a two-story han that stood on the site of the present-day Gazioğlu Arcade. The famous traveler Edmund Naumann, who visited Kayseri in 1890, stayed at the Sumoğlu Han and drew the city's general view toward Mount Erciyes from its terrace. Naumann, who said he reached it "after passing through the Coppersmiths' Bazaar," describes this han as the best he stayed in throughout his travels. He notes that the two-story han had a large courtyard in the middle, that he stayed on the han's upper floor, and that he drew the engraving of the city while looking out from the han's terrace.
