This building stood out as one of the symbols of the educational activity and scholarly vitality in 13th-century Anatolia. Kutbüddin eş-Şîrâzî, the renowned scholar of mathematics, astronomy, and medicine who came from Iran and carried out important scientific work in Anatolia, was appointed as its professor.
