The Safa School was built in 1927-1928 by the then-mayor İbrahim Safa (1874-1931) and took its name from him. According to Halit Erkiletlioğlu, the cemetery on the plot where the building was constructed was moved, and some of the gravestones were used in the school's construction. The school, built as a single story over a basement, had an additional building constructed on its eastern side in 1960. At this time, the eastern wall of the main school was partly demolished to provide direct passage between the two structures.
