Kayseri was first the administrative center of the Kingdom of Cappadocia; then of the Cappadocia province of the Roman Empire, and of the same region during the Byzantine period. Throughout this long history, as in Roman cities, many baths were built in Kayseri as well. However, the remains of only one of them have survived to the present day. This structure is known as the "Battalaltı Roman Bath." Located in the Eskişehir Bağları area, one of Kayseri's oldest settlements, to the north of the Battal Mosque, this large bath is dated to the Late Roman or early Byzantine period.
