Editor's Note
Only a small part of the church survives, with the west wall relatively intact. A surviving section of wall on the south shows that this part was vaulted. The building, which stood until the 1950s, is thought to have been built in the 890s, during the reign of the Armenian king Smbat I (890-891/914). According to its inscription, which no longer survives but has been recorded in publications, it was repaired between 1072 and 1081. It is of the single-nave, single-apse plan type characteristic of Armenian architecture, with a dome over the central section of the naos.
