Editor's Note
It was built in the tenth century by the architect Trdat. This important religious centre of the Bagratid dynasty was home to several Catholicoi: Ananias the Learned, Vahan I of Siounie, who served at Argina between 959 and 992. Long used by villagers as a stable and shed, the church was completely demolished in the 1960s. Today only a modest part of the apse and a few decorative fragments survive.
