Editor's Note
During road works in the Kurtuluş quarter of Fatsa, on a site just above the coast road, late Roman-period graves were identified, and the work also brought back to attention an important structure that had been forgotten and left in ruins. Popularly called the Sülük Gölü (Leech Lake) Monastery, this building is in fact the main church (katholikon) of a Byzantine-era monastery dedicated to Saint Constantine and his mother Saint Helena.
