Editor's Note
The Taş Mektep (Stone School), originally called the İdadi Mektep, opened in 1893, though its construction had begun in 1886. Located in the central district, the building is two stories high and built of cut stone. Having served as a high school, middle school, and fine-arts high school, the building has another notable feature: during the tour of the country that Atatürk made for the Hat Reform, he was hosted in a classroom in this building.
