Editor's Note
Considering it improper to host foreign guests visiting Hereke in mere huts, it was deemed fitting to build a pavilion befitting the factory's prestige, and this pavilion was erected by order of Sultan Abdülhamid II ahead of the German Emperor Kaiser Wilhelm II's visit to İzmit. Built at Yıldız Palace in three weeks, the pavilion was brought by sea in pieces and assembled on site in a single day. Believed to be the work of the Italian architect Raimondo d'Aronco, it was built using boat-construction techniques, with no metal nails used at all.
