The filter building was constructed by the Hochtief company. Supplying the water needs of the newly founded capital, whose population was rapidly growing, was among the Republic's first major undertakings, and to this end the construction of the Çubuk I Dam and the filter station (water filtration plant) was decided in the early 1930s. The building, whose foundation was laid on 10 June 1935, was opened to service together with the dam in a grand ceremony on 3 November 1936.
