Editor's Note
The reason the building is known as the "Italian Mansion" is that it once belonged to an Italian family, the Dussi family. Serving the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, the Dussi family left Genoa in 1662 for diplomatic reasons and, over a period of three hundred years, settled first in Austria, then in Bulgaria, and finally in Turkey. The brothers Andrea Dussi (1788-1878) and Matteo Dussi (1815-1898), who came to Tekirdağ in 1841, drew lots between themselves to settle into the twin houses they built as adjoining homes on the street now called Barbaros Avenue.
