Editor's Note
It was built at the end of the 19th century under the name "Hovnanyan" for the education of Armenian children. It opened in the same courtyard as the Surp Takavor Church, a long-established building that has not survived to the present. The school, near Peştemalcı Avenue—one of the city's busy commercial points at the time—stood in one of the two large settlements where Armenians lived most densely in the city. After the emigration of the Armenians, the school building lost its importance.
