Editor's Note

Its inscription reads: Siroz Ağa built it for the sake of God; the seeker said, like a jewel, to the righteous. The slender, water-flowing fountain of grand benefaction—may the dotted reckoning serve as proof of its date. May he who drinks of it like the water of Zamzam say "son"; this water is the water of Kawthar, may it flow; may the Truth grant its owner abundant reward. "A fountain has been built, named Selsebil" (1161). Commissioned by: Siroz Ağa (1748). Address: on Hükümet Avenue, Aydoğdu Neighbourhood, sheet 7, block 22, parcel 46. Detailed description: Built of marble, the fountain has a square plan. In the centre of the fountain's façade a shallow niche formed with a depressed pointed arch can be seen.
