Editor's Note
No trace now remains of the Church of Hagios Spyridon, which in present-day Silivri dated in essence to the Byzantine period and stood behind the Piri Pasha Mosque in the lower town. Towards the end of the 19th century this building, in a heavily ruined state with a pierced dome, displayed in its exterior architecture the characteristics of the late Byzantine period. In 1881 the wealthy Greeks of Silivri had it rebuilt entirely as a new structure by the architect K. Mavrides.
