Editor's Note
A section of the Via Egnatia Vetus (the Old Egnatian Way) passed through here, which is why it remained a busy road throughout history. It is stated to have been repaired in the reign of Sultan Ahmed I. During this repair, it was noted that the bridge had four arches. The traveller Dr. John Covel, who visited Silivri in 1675, describes it as having three arches. Examination of 20th-century photographs shows that two of the bridge's arches were visible. With the post-2019 restoration, the bridge reached its final four-arch form.
