Editor's Note
This bridge is located within the boundaries of Kavak village in the Gelibolu district of Çanakkale province. Spanning the Kavak stream, the bridge was first built as an arched structure in 1870-1871 during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz. Damaged in the 1912 earthquake, it was later repaired. Damaged again by flooding in 1936, the bridge was redesigned by the Thrace General Inspectorate and its construction completed in 1938. A marble Turkish inscription on the central pier reads "Kavak Bridge 1938."
