It was built in 1366 by Sultan Murad I Hüdavendigâr. Various sources state that it took the name 'Şehadet Mosque' (Martyrdom Mosque) after Murad I Hüdavendigâr fell as a martyr at Kosovo in 1389. When first built, the mosque was an example of a multi-pillared, multi-domed Ulu Cami (Grand Mosque) type and had the same plan as Murad I's mosque in Plovdiv (Filibe). https://www.bursa.com.tr/tr/mekan/sehadet-cami-284/
