Editor's Note
Devletşah Hatun was the daughter of Süleyman Şah, the Germiyan bey. She is also said to have been a granddaughter of Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi. To strengthen the friendship between the Ottoman and Germiyan principalities, she was married to Şehzade Bayezid, son of Murad Hüdavendigâr (later Yıldırım Bayezid). She was the mother of Çelebi Mehmed and died in 1413. The Devlet Hatun Tomb measures 5.75 by 5.75 metres and is built entirely of marble. It rests on eight pointed arches that bear on right-angled corner piers and cylindrical columns in the middle. Its dome, divided into forty-eight segments on the inside, is set on a high drum and covered on the outside by a lead-clad pointed cone.
