Editor's Note
The building was constructed as a madrasa in the 15th century by Eyne Bey. Ownership of the building still belongs to the Foundations Directorate, and it was allocated to the General Directorate of Libraries on the condition that it be used as a library. The madrasa, which at one point was used as a canning workshop, was built in the early 15th century by Eyne Bey, who served as subaşı (police chief) during the reign of Sultan Yıldırım Bayezid and his sons. With body walls built of rubble stone and brick, the madrasa has nine rooms and a classroom, with a library and a lavatory on the upper floor. It is also known as the Merdivenli (Staircase) Madrasa.
