Editor's Note
The mosque in the Piremir neighbourhood was built by Hoca Alizade in 1495 in honour of Pir Emir Sultan, who came from Bukhara. Its ownership belongs to the General Directorate of Foundations. The cut kefeki stone and brickwork in the walls show it to be a work of the Fatih (Mehmed II) period. The arches of the portico and windows, the eaves, the brick rosettes on the wall, the minaret adjoining the mosque, and the stair heads are all in the architectural style of that era. The cone of the single-balcony minaret is constricted and pointed. Its dome is covered with lead. The walls of the building are laid with three courses of brick and one course of rubble stone.
