Editor's Note
It was commissioned in AD 980 by Prince Grigor Pahlavuni for his father, Apughamrents. Since G. Pahlavuni died in 982, the church is known to have been built before that date. According to another inscription, the funerary chapels on the north side, dedicated to St. Stephen and St. Christopher, were added in 1040 by Prince Apelgharip. Architecturally, it has a dodecagonal exterior and a hexaconch (six-apsed) interior plan.
