Editor's Note
It was commissioned by King Gagik in the early 10th century AD. The circular, high-domed church collapsed a short while after it was built, as the broad dome resting on the drums created structural problems. Repaired again in the 12th century, the church was then covered with a smaller dome supported by eight basalt columns. Of the Gagik Church, which was the largest centrally planned circular church in the region in its day, only part of the foundation walls survive today.
