The exact construction date of the church in Başkaya village in central Kars is unknown. However, based on its architectural features, it is accepted to have been built between 1878 and 1918, while Kars was under Russian occupation. It has a three-aisled basilical plan. Its facades, built entirely of finely cut stone, have plain round-arched windows. Today it is used as the village mosque. Some changes were made when the church was converted into a mosque: its two large doors were sealed and a new door was opened on the north side.
