Editor's Note
The building was constructed on a south-sloping site, square in plan, with a ground floor, a mezzanine and a first floor; the south façade forms the main front of the house, with the south side facing the courtyard and the other sides facing the garden. The hipped roof covering the building is clad with traditional Turkish (alaturka) tiles, and the decorated eaves are lined underneath with plain wood. The building was commissioned by Hacı Mehmet Arif Çavuşoğlu in the last quarter of the 19th century; its woodwork was done by a master of Armenian origin named Birdesko, and its stonework by a master of Greek origin.
