Editor's Note
The exact date on which this bath in the Yusufşah neighbourhood of central Niksar was built is not known, as it bears no building inscription. The name of the Great Bath (Büyük Hamam) is known to appear in the endowment deed drawn up by Nizameddin Yağıbasan in AH 560 (1164–65 AD). On the basis of its plan, however, the building can be dated to a period before the 14th century. Rectangular in plan and oriented east–west, it belongs to the three-iwan, corner-cell (halvet) plan type. From west to east, the bath consists in turn of a disrobing room, a cold room, a warm room, a hot room, a water tank and a furnace (külhan).
